Donald Trump has reportedly waived major provisions of Senator Lindsey Graham's Russia sanctions legislation, removing new economic pressure on Vladimir Putin just days before a critical implementation deadline. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has responded, and his warnings about sanctions, Ukraine's ability to defend itself, and new restrictions affecting Starlink raise serious questions about Washington's direction.

In this October 17 update, Greg Terry examines the reported sanctions waivers, including provisions targeting Russian energy, financial institutions, and countries purchasing Russian oil and gas. Zelenskyy explains why lifting pressure on Moscow will not stop Putin's war. He also reveals Ukrainian findings concerning Starlink speed restrictions that he says are disrupting frontline supply deliveries and drone interception capabilities. Ukrainian tests reportedly found different Starlink behavior inside the European Union, raising questions about who imposed the restrictions and why.

Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev then enters the picture with revealing statements about Russian-American economic cooperation, energy markets, and the Graham sanctions. Greg examines how Dmitriev's arguments align with the administration's stated economic interests and whether Moscow is succeeding in weakening Washington's relationship with Kyiv. The central question is no longer simply whether Washington wants peace. It is whether American policy is increasing pressure on the country that invaded Ukraine or weakening Ukraine's ability to resist that aggression.

There's a lot to unpack in this Memorandum of Understanding

For context we recorded this at 9am Central on Friday June 19th.

One week ago the US stance was zero nuclear enrichment for Iran, they had to hand over all of their highly enriched uranium and the ballistic missile program had to be destroyed.

Today, President Trump has said that only fair that Iran keeps their missiles, that we’re in no rush to get the highly enriched uranium and future enrichment is ok for civilian purposes.

That is a dramatic change in a very short period of time so if you’re confused, just know that so am I.

To help us unpack what exactly is happening here, we’re joined today by Ambassador Daniel Shapiro.
Dan served as the US Ambassador to Israel from 2011 to 2017, and spent time working in the Pentagon, at the State Department on the National Security Council and Capital Hill.

دقایقی پیش دونالد ترامپ گفت ایران با عجله و به هر قیمتی خواهان دستیابی به توافقه و اضافه کرد: من تصمیم خواهم گرفت که آیا آمریکا وارد تعامل خواهد شد یا نه. همزمان سخنگوی وزارت امورخارجه جمهوری اسلامی امروز تایید کرد نشست ایران و عمان با کشورهای منطقه درباره وضعیت تنگه هرمز با درخواست عربستان سعودی لغو شده. بقایی گفته دلیل درخواست ریاض، درگیری بین حوثی‌ها با دولت یمن و عربستان سعودی نیست. شبه‌نظامیان حوثی مورد حمایت جمهوری اسلامی در روزهای اخیر حمله‌هاشون به پایگاه‌های نظامی عربستان سعودی و همچینن خط لوله انتقال نفت شرق به غرب این کشور گسترش دادن. آکسیوس به نقل از مقام یکی از کشورهای منطقه نوشته ریاض نگران تثبیت وضعیتی در تنگه هرمزه که برای این کشور قابل قبول نباشه

So Russian logistics continue to burn across the occupied territories, but, as expected, the Russian military is learning and adapting. In fact, Russian milblogger Military Informant just said, “There is progress, provided that the enemy does not sharply increase its attacks.” So today we're looking at the four ways Russia is trying to mitigate the impact of the Ukrainian middle strike campaign: stopping traffic, mobile counter drone teams, jamming Starlink and passive measures.

Ukraine’s middle strike campaign continues to hammer Russian logistics and based on new data, it does appear to have slowed Russia’s advance over the past few months but there’s still plenty of work to be done. And when I say slowed, I mean that Russia’s key offensives this summer are moving slower than soldiers did across the Somme in WWI.
