اولین بخش از پادکست «خاکستری» به روزنامه‌نگاری اختصاص دارد. روزنامه‌نگاری همان کاری است که از سال‌ها پیش مشغولش بوده‌ام و احتمالا آن را کمی یاد گرفته‌ام و حالا شروع پادکست با این موضوع برای من ادای دین به آن کار هم هست.
حالا نزدیک به ۱۳ سال شده که در تبعید زندگی می‌کنم. روزنامه‌نگاری در تبعید مشکلات زیادی دارد. و احتمالا مهمترینش، دوری از جامعه ایرانی است. بجز آن، سخت‌ترین سوال اینست که آیا در روزنامه‌نگاری چیزی به اسم بی‌طرفی ممکن است؟
بعضی گفته‌اند روزنامه‌نگار باید کنار مردم باشد. اما گاهی ماجرا پیچیده‌تر هست. در هر حادثه‌ای مردم واقعا کجا هستند؟ چطور می‌شود آن را تشخیص داد؟ مردم با دوستان و اطرافیان ما یکی نیستند و ما نظر اکثریت مردم را نمی توانیم به این سادگی بدست آوریم.
و حتی اگر بر فرض بدانیم که مردم کجا هستند، سوال بعدی اینست که آیا مردم همیشه جایی هستند که روزنامه‌نگار هم باید باشد؟ مثلا روزنامه‌نگاری که مساله حقوق بشر برایش اولویت دارد، مخالف هرگونه حکم اعدام خواهد بود. اما بارها دیده‌ایم که گروه‌هایی از مردم از اعدام در برخی موارد دفاع می‌کنند.
گاه معلوم نیست کنار مردم بودن، دقیقا کجاست و گاه اساسا برای روزنامه‌نگار معلوم نیست که ایستادن در همانجا درست است یا نه؟ به نظر می‌رسد که احتمالا هم کنار مردم بودن و هم بی‌طرفی برای روزنامه‌نگار، تقریبا ممکن نباشد. اما بالاخره روزنامه‌نگاری هم اصولی دارد. آن اصول چه می‌تواند باشد؟ در این بخش از پادکست خاکستری همراه با فرداد فرحزاد، کمی به این پرسش پرداخته‌ایم.

There’s a lot of speculation that Putin will order a mobilization in the coming months to backfill troop losses in Ukraine. But here’s the thing, it’s already happening and has been for some time.
The challenge Putin faces right now is that they’re running out of people they would prefer to send to war, the undesirables, and they’re stuck having to explain why they need so many more soldiers while telling the population that they’re winning the war and advancing on all fronts.
