I examine reports that Russian Major General Anton Grunas, commander of the 4th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade, was killed in occupied Donetsk Oblast on September 12. Grunas had personally briefed Vladimir Putin on Russia’s claimed capture of Konstantinovka and received the Gold Star Hero of Russia less than three weeks before his reported death. Yet available battlefield maps do not support a full Russian capture of the city. I assess what this episode says about propaganda, command vulnerability, and Ukraine’s unmanned systems forces.

I also cover Ukraine’s reported strike on an Su-24 at Saki airfield in occupied Crimea, the reported shutdown of the Kirishi refinery and reduced output at other major diesel facilities, and damage to a warehouse beside Taganrog’s Atlant Aero drone producer. On the ground, I review Operation Vivaldi north of Lyman, where Ukraine’s Third Army Corps reports clearing 75 square kilometers and pressuring a Russian salient.

Ukraine is hitting Russian oil refineries as Zelensky prepares to meet Trump—and I explain why those strikes are a bargaining chip Ukraine cannot afford to surrender without something in return.

I examine Ukraine’s reported strikes on the Kuibyshev and Ufa refineries, reports that Moscow’s refinery has halted crude processing after an earlier attack, and Ukrainian strikes targeting Russia’s drone infrastructure. The strategic question is straightforward: why should Ukraine stop hitting Russian refineries while Russia continues attacking Ukraine’s electricity and energy supplies?

I also cover Russia’s overnight attacks, the reported destruction of a Ukrainian oil and gas facility, power outages ahead of winter, and the latest battlefield developments. I distinguish reported damage from uncertain estimates—including the claim about how much Russian refining capacity is offline.

Finally, I discuss drone warfare, an unconfirmed report of strikes on Russian FSB sites, and the former Russian mayor whose journey from a bribery conviction to the battlefield offers a grim illustration of this war.

My argument: any agreement to halt attacks on energy infrastructure must protect Ukraine’s energy system too. Pressure on Zelensky alone will not accomplish that.

Overnight a Ukrainian missile strike destroyed four Su-34 fighter bombers at an airfield 370km from the front. Marking one of the largest losses of Russian aircraft in a single mission in over a year. Even better, these were loaded up with bombs ready to launch into Ukraine.

We also have the Ukrainian 3rd Army Corps announcing the completion of phase four of Operation Vivaldi, their counteroffensive in the east. Saying they’ve now liberated nearly 300km of territory and eliminated 8,000 Russian soldiers.

So Ukraine has now visually confirmed more than 100,000 Russian soldiers killed or wounded by the Unmanned Systems Forces over the past year. That’s wild but even crazier is that Ukraine is on track to triple that over the next 12 months. And if that comes to fruition it’s hard to see Russia continuing. I mean they have a lot of manpower but 300k+ losses a year is a tough pill to swallow for any country, but that’s where we are right now.

واکنش‌ها به تغییر تصمیم دونالد ترامپ و لغو حمله به ایران ادامه دارد. کانال ۱۲ اسرائیل گزارش داد مقام‌های اسرائیلی از لغو حمله بزرگ برنامه‌ریزی‌شده علیه جمهوری اسلامی، از طریق پست ترامپ در تروث سوشال مطلع شدند و حتی سنتکام هم از این تغییر بی‌اطلاع بود. ترامپ پیش‌تر گفته بود به درخواست ایران و شماری از کشورهای خاورمیانه، با لغو حمله موافقت کرده؛ مشروط به دستیابی سریع به توافقی که به گفته او شامل بازگشایی فوری تنگه هرمز و پایان تهدید هسته‌ای ایران است. او همچنین مدعی شد اسرائیل از این تصمیم حمایت کرده اشت. عربستان سعودی تماس تلفنی محمد بن سلمان با ترامپ را تأیید و اعلام کرد ولیعهد این کشور بر اولویت گفت‌وگو تأکید کرده است. هم‌زمان، خبرگزاری فارس، وابسته به سپاه، موافقت تهران با بازگشایی تنگه هرمز را تکذیب کرده است
