The Iran war turned hot again overnight as Tehran launched more than 20 ballistic missiles at Israel in response to IDF strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon. While President Trump urged restraint, Israel went ahead with their retaliation, hitting targets across Iran prompting a warning from the IRGC that all regional energy infrastructure may now be targeted. Also, the Houthis are back in. They launched missiles at Israel and have now partially shut down the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait.

Russia says that the situation in west Zaporizhia continues to deteriorate. You know why? Because they lied about progress again, and are, again paying for it in blood. I mean how many times are we going to see this? Little lines on a map mean nothing to you and I but when they’re off by 10-20km and they’re used to plan missions, a lot can go wrong.

Ukraine’s middle strike campaign continues to hammer Russian logistics and based on new data, it does appear to have slowed Russia’s advance over the past few months but there’s still plenty of work to be done. And when I say slowed, I mean that Russia’s key offensives this summer are moving slower than soldiers did across the Somme in WWI.

There's a lot to unpack in this Memorandum of Understanding

For context we recorded this at 9am Central on Friday June 19th.

One week ago the US stance was zero nuclear enrichment for Iran, they had to hand over all of their highly enriched uranium and the ballistic missile program had to be destroyed.

Today, President Trump has said that only fair that Iran keeps their missiles, that we’re in no rush to get the highly enriched uranium and future enrichment is ok for civilian purposes.

That is a dramatic change in a very short period of time so if you’re confused, just know that so am I.

To help us unpack what exactly is happening here, we’re joined today by Ambassador Daniel Shapiro.
Dan served as the US Ambassador to Israel from 2011 to 2017, and spent time working in the Pentagon, at the State Department on the National Security Council and Capital Hill.

So Ukraine has now visually confirmed more than 100,000 Russian soldiers killed or wounded by the Unmanned Systems Forces over the past year. That’s wild but even crazier is that Ukraine is on track to triple that over the next 12 months. And if that comes to fruition it’s hard to see Russia continuing. I mean they have a lot of manpower but 300k+ losses a year is a tough pill to swallow for any country, but that’s where we are right now.

I don’t think people fully understand how big of a problem Russia is facing right now. It's been a while since I’ve seen this many Russian commentators and analysts worried about the same issue: logistics. They’re not getting to the front. As one milblogger put it, “The situation is worsening every week” While others complained that now is the time to actually start the real war and even questioning whether Putin actually understands the situation at the front. Because surely if he did, these problems would be resolved. But they’re not, and the path to isolating Crimea and the southern occupied territories is becoming clear.

Logistics are boring, I get it. But if you can’t secure your supply lines, you can’t hold terrain. Which means this ‘little problem’ Russia is dealing with, actually threatens the entire war effort.

14 more Russian ships were hit last night which makes 90 in the past six days. That led one Russian reporter to say, “The picture is bleak: logistics are under constant pressure, infrastructure is being hit, and supply routes are becoming more complicated.”
In fact he goes on to explain how, if this continues, the Russian front lines will face a systemic supply shortage.

Russia has a manpower shortage in Ukraine. It’s not that they’re running out of people, far from it. They’re running out of people they want to fight the war. The undesirables. The second class citizens, prisoners and folks that to be blunt, the Kremlin just doesn’t care that much about.
And as that group gets smaller and smaller, it becomes increasingly likely that we’re going to see a forced mobilization in Russia where citizens are pressed into service and sent to the front.

So Russia just rolled out some pretty impressive new technology and it sort of worked then didn’t.
It’s a new drone defense system, the Arena M, and it sounds like it may have perfectly intercepted some Ukrainian drones flying at Russian tanks. Problem is, they were facing hundreds and the system was overwhelmed.

I was out for like three days and Ukraine just about shut off the Sea of Azov. I mean this looked like a turkey shoot. Fuel tankers trying to reach the besieged Crimean peninsula were easy targets and in four days, 35 ships were hit.

The US military has a drone problem and the solution sits in Ukraine.

It’s not the tech or the manufacturing, both items that we could tackle and scale tomorrow. It’s adaptation. Warfare right now is changing faster than any time in history.

What works today, may not work tomorrow. With how long it takes us to develop and deploy new technologies, it’s likely that what we roll out to our soldiers is best case no longer the ideal solution, worst case, it’s already outdated, bordering on useless.

One company that’s working to resolve this issue of rapid adaptation is Delian. Delian is a European defense company that builds their products in Ukraine based on real time feedback from the front and are showing how this method could be adopted by other countries around the world.
