Ukraine Continues to Smash Russian Refinery Capacity
I examine Ukraine’s overnight long-range drone campaign against Lukoil’s Sovo refinery in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region, reportedly one of three Russian refineries struck in three days. With a nominal combined refining capacity of 32.9 million tons annually, these are not symbolic targets: Sovo produces gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel. I discuss why repeated hits on individual facilities could force Russia to make difficult choices about fuel security, air-defense coverage, and military logistics. I also cover reported strikes on a Pantsir-S2 and an S-400 command vehicle, plus continued disruption at Moscow-area airports.
I then assess Russia’s reported 433-drone barrage, Ukraine’s claim of 371 drones shot down or suppressed, and the civilian consequences in Kramatorsk and Kyiv. On the battlefield, I put Ukrainian and Russian casualty claims in context, examine October’s reported records, and look at Ukraine’s unmanned systems—from attacks on Russian boats to an armored ground robot designed to evacuate wounded troops.
